Computer Information System
A computer information system is system which is composed of computers and people that are utilized to process and interprate information. This term however sometimes are loosely used to refer only the software used to run the computer database or sometimes only refers to a computer system.
CIS is essentially an information system using computer systems to carry out some or all of the planned tasks assigned to it. There are five basic components of computer based information system:
- Hardware: These are the devices that run the whole CIS. These include monitors, keyboards, CPUs, printers, which work in synchronization to accept, process , show data and information.
- Software: These are the program that allow the above mentioned hardware to process data.
- Databases: These are the files and tables of the database system containing the related data
- Networks: These are connections of various terminals that allowes diverse computers to distibute resources.
- Procedures: These are the commands which combines the above components to process information and give a prefered output.
